Chapter One Choosing roads
“Hey, Akiko. How come you chose neurology as your specialty?”
“I just felt that it might be right for me. How about you, Hitomi? Why did you choose psychiatry?”
“Well, I didn’t want to do much surgery, and the QOL seemed to be high.”
We laughed. It was March, the end of the two years of medical training. The spring weather was fine and warm, but the two chose different roads for the first time, and they were feeling quite anxious and nervous.
“Let’s do our best.”
“Yes, it maybe difficult, but let’s give it a try!”
“Let’s go to karaoke today!”
“Sure!”
The two of them were friends from elementary school, and got along perfectly.
Hitomi was shy but nice. Akiko was smart and hardworking.
“Let’s do a spring song medley!”
“Okay, I wonder what to sing.”
Hitomi had a boyfriend named Hayato, and Akiko had a boyfriend named Shogo.
The four of them often went out for dinner together.
Hayato and Shogo were both going to the surgery department.
“We’ll probably get busy from April.”
“Well, the medical training was tough too.”
“Let’s do the best we can do.”
“When we have time, let’s go out together again.”
The four of then got along very well too.
