「死」を待てぬが故に Because I could not stop for Death
米国の詩人エミリー・E・ディキンソン（Emily Elizabeth Dickinson、1830-1886）が遺した作品に、死の馬車を歌ったものがある。残念ながらデュラハンともコーチ・ア・バワーとも言わず、制作年代不明であるが、アイルランド移民が米国文化に齎した影響を見ることができる。
我等は「死」を待てぬが故に……
彼ご丁寧にも我待ち受けて……
馬車には我等おのが身と……
そして不老不死。
Because I could not stop for Death—
He kindly stopped for me—
The Carriage held but just Ourselves—
And Immortality.
ゆっくり駆ける……急ぐでもなし、
我は捨て去る
労働も余暇も、
彼が死民権に代え……
We slowly drove—He knew no haste,
And I had put away
My labor and my leisure too,
For His Civility—
学校を過ぎた、子供たち励む
休み時間に…輪になって……

We passed the School, where Children strove

Or rather—He passed Us—

We paused before a House that seemed
A Swelling of the Ground—
