Prologue
Noel couldn't help it. It didn't matter to him how many times he stared at the woman across from him, her features captivated him.
He had a little weakness for beautiful people.
Why?
Because he was one of those people who loved beautiful things.
"So, will you do it?" She asked him. Her soft features and delicate neck complimented the dress she wore exquisitely.
"I'm more surprised that you remember me from college." He answered instead.
Her nervous laughter had him leaning forward and sipping through the straw his flavoured lemon water.
Eyes never leaving her face.
Thick eyelashes made beautiful by light smokey makeup to compliment the greens of her dress. And to bring out the deep browns in her eyes, making them look bigger and vulnerable. Lips coated in pink lipstick. Ears adorned by the same colored studded diamonds as her lip stick.
Sophisticated. Her look was one of sophistication.
Well she was a business tycoon's wife and he gave props to her make-up artists and designers. Because her hair done up like that, made her look like she was part of the royal family.
She held herself like royalty.
Being a business tycoon's wife must probably be a hard job.
Having to be perfect around the clock.
He did not envy her in the slightest.
"Well you made a name for yourself the moment you stepped into college. Breaking records left and right. Then you went off to university. You happened to be the talk of the town at Havard." She says with a grin.
Pearly white teeth.
Barbie had pearly whites and she reminded him of Barbie right then.
What a killer smile.
"I didn't go to Havard." He stated bluntly.
She chuckled. Light and airy.
He wondered if she practiced that laughter that it just became second nature to her now?
"I know. But the professors would mention you every now and then because you made a name for yourself at your university." She tells me, matter of fact like.
He couldn't argue with her there.
Her flowery perfume was distracting.
He took another sip. Contemplating his next words carefully. Because, this pleasantries between two strangers, who only went to the same college was going to give him a headache.
"Why would a tycoon's wife come to me with a personal assistant job offer?" He asked her directly. "I can't really think of any reason as to why you would come to me directly, instead of having someone call me."
The woman across from him flushed and looks away for a moment. "Well you-"
"You called me directly to meet you here." He stated again.
"It's because this is a important meeting."
Noel blinked at her. It was too early in the morning for this.
"It isn't. It's the weekend. Even I can tell you had important things to do on your weekend Mrs Maxim." She looks a little embarrassed when he said her name like that.
"Your right about that." She sighed.
Not once did she touch the coffee she ordered herself. Her hands were still clutching her small pink bag she brought along.
"Can you be honest with me. Why are you here in the middle of Minnesota, at eight in the morning trying to convince me to take a job I have no intention of doing because your acting suspicious?"
The female across from Noel finally looks at him dead in the eye, making him sit up straight. She was about to get serious with him.
"Okay. We did go to same college. That's how I know you. Not personally. I only found out when I had done research on you. Your track record in the business world is clean and impeccable. Never has there been a single error when you were one of the major tycoon's personal assistant. And when I spoke to them, they all said the same thing. They wished you stayed longer."
Yeah, only after he left.
Noel blinked at her and took a sip. A longer one. His stoic expression didn't give away his embarrassment. He never was one to accept compliments easily. They made his insides all jumbled up.
And compliments given by a beautiful face?
His palms got sweaty.
"So you heard all that and some. Now I ask. Why do you need me exactly?" He asked her with a raised eyebrow.
She smiled a little and Noel hated how he liked that smile so much. It made her look more real.
...made him want to be her friend.
"You see my husband has a younger brother. And he's in desperate need of a good and qualified personal assistant who takes their job seriously. You are one of the best in this field mostly dominated by woman. And to be frank, I think my brother in law has had enough of female assistants." She pulls her lips in a thin line and Noel narrowed his eyes.
"Has your husband told you to...?" He trailed off, not sure if he was right to assume.
"Oh, no. I told him I would find someone qualified. And your more than qualified. A year. That's all I ask of you. Just for a year. The company's reputation is a big part of well, our lives and Rurik doesn't take that fact seriously. He's the type to mix business and pleasure."
Noel nodded slowly at that.
Well, he had been meaning to pick what administration job to do.
Here one was being offered to him.
"When is the interview?" He asked her.
"A week from now."
He could work with that.
"So will you do it?" She asked him again.
Noel stared at her hopeful smile.
"Who's going to conduct the interview?" He asked her.
"My husband. He's getting tired of Rurik's behavior." She added.
Noel felt it was unnecessary for such a personal bit of info. But doesn't say it.
"I'm only accepting because I was planning on finding a administration job. This saves me the time. Secondly, keep in mind. I'm no miracle worker."
