Chapter 41 Cursed Tome of Desire
Kailey was finished organizing the books when a single grimoire fell from one of the shelves. She went to pick up the fallen book, but as her hand reached toward the cover, it quickly swooshed open, catching her off guard. Startled, she jumped back, feeling an unknown pressure and thinking it was dangerous. A moment later, the fluttering pages finally reached the book's center. Kailey cautiously approached the book, picked it up, and tentatively read the open contents of the book.
She came across what appeared to be a spell book that contained various spells she had not encountered before, many of which were ethically questionable. The book was filled with numerous spells, and the page Kailey stumbled upon contained the exact spell she needed to cure her curse. However, the magic incantations in the book were illegible to her, making it impossible to read the words to activate the spells. However, the descriptions of them were still quite legible. As she delved deeper into the book to understand the underlying principles, she felt the book pulling her into the ink on the pages. The book itself, filled with curses, seemed to be a curse in its own right. Simply reading the book inflicted ailments on the reader, depending on how long and intensely one gazed at its pages.
As Kailey was about to be consumed by the book, it was suddenly tossed from her hands, causing her gaze to be broken from the words sucking her in. Aleshia watched as Kailey picked up the book and began to read it. Aleshia also wanted to know what was inside, but she noticed that Kailey was reading things that weren't on the page. Aleshia couldn't see any of the words that she heard as Kailey read through it, and she realized that something strange was happening to Kailey. Aleshia quickly took control of Kailey's hands and swiftly tossed the book away before moving Kailey away from it.
The witch hat who periodically came to check on Kailey noticed her far-off expression and immediately saw the open book. She quickly used her magic, realizing what the book was, and instantly moved the book to a deeper part of the library. Kailey appeared dazed, as if she was lost in thought. At that moment, the hat approached her and expressed concern, warning her about the cursed tome of desire she had opened. "Kailey, you shouldn't have opened that. That tome is known as the Tome of Desire. It ensnares its victims by using their desires and will trap anyone who tries to study its pages, feasting on their soul to increase its understanding while keeping the victim's souls inside of them trapped for as long as the book survives."
