Sympathy and Predicaments

Chapter 306 Sympathy and Predicaments

"What a poor thing," Kelly and Cecelia sympathized.

"I know it's unfortunate, but will we have to go and break them up again. If we don't, our camp will bear the consequences of not completing a quest assigned by the alliance. And if we fail, there's no doubt they will assign someone else to do it." Brian informed, letting his words trail off.

Liam responded to Brian's earlier question, stating, "Although my information is speculative, I have been able to listen in on the thoughts and complaints of the beastkin. Based on what I've overheard, I am fairly certain that my explanation is accurate."

Brian sighed, feeling the weight of separating a family, and he did not like the feeling it gave him. "I know it's going to be tough, but we can't ignore our quest. If we do, they will punish us, assign demerits to our camp, and push even more of the grunt work onto us." They had to confront the reality of the situation. After gathering more information from Liam, they headed toward the rundown building where the beastkin was.

When they arrived, Brian headed toward the door and knocked. After some rustling and cautious footsteps, the beastkin approached the door and slid the panel open, saying, "I don't appreciate your lackey tailing me. I have no reason to keep him alive if he keeps pestering us." They warned, "I don't know what those people told you, but you are not going to get in here without resistance. I am a beastman, and I have no connection to what you are looking for. So, you can leave me and this place alone."

Brian sighed and said, "I understand how things are, but I won't be able to help you if you keep pushing us away. Just remember that the noble you antagonized will continue giving quests to others, and one day, those who accept those quests may not be as understanding or willing to help. My party still maintains its innocence in this matter, and I don't want them to keep taking on quests that tarnish that innocence. However, we have little choice; like you, we must provide for our needs. We have an entire camp behind us that depends on the rewards for survival."

After a pause, the beastkin replied, "I sympathize with your predicament, but if you plan on taking our people away, know that we won't go down without a fight." The beastkin then closed the sliding panel and left the door.
