Chapter 144 Beginning of the Game
Something in the room activated, and with a whooshing noise, Aleshia began to hear liquid sloshing. Looking towards the noise, she saw that the test tubes had filled with a strange liquid.
Before she could react, the glass holding the liquid began to break down. The sound of cracking glass filled the room, signaling impending danger. Aleshia quickly ran to the open door and darted out into the hallway.
As Aleshia exited the laboratory, a loud crack echoed in the air, followed by the sound of glass shattering on the floor. Not wanting to discover what had escaped from the test tube, she quickened her pace. As she ran down the hallway, she scanned her surroundings for any more open doors. After entering several more corridors, her gaze fell upon an open door that bore a familiar mark. Previously dim, it now glowed faintly.
Quickly entering the room, Aleshia briefly wondered what to do next. However, as she heard footsteps echoing through the halls, she felt she had no choice but to take action. Grasping at straws, she slapped her hand onto the mark on the wall, and to her surprise, it began to peel off like paper and fell toward her. Freaked out by the strangeness of the situation, Aleshia backed away, but the mark chased her down relentlessly. It slithered over her skin, making her briefly glow a luminescent blue before settling beneath her arm.
Curiously, she examined her arm, holding it above her, waving it around. She could faintly see the mark and remarked, "It's like a tattoo." However, the echoing footsteps grew louder and closer, interrupting her inspection. Quickly, she ran out of the room in search of another mark.
The unknown entity chasing Aleshia showed no sign of slowing down, and neither did she. Surprisingly, Aleshia didn't feel exhausted at all. Eventually, she came across her second mark. Curious to conduct a brief experiment, she removed one of her shoes and touched the mark with it in her hand. Like before, it fell gracefully like a leaf in the wind until it suddenly gained weight and moved with a new kind of gravity.
This time, the mark appeared on her other arm and glowed like the first. As she spread both her arms out, she examined the two marks closely. Now that they were side by side, she noticed that each mark had different scripts etched onto her skin.
