“The True Nature of Anger” – A Trilogy of Poems
⸻
[First Poem: The Burning Voice]
I’m angry—
but it’s not your fault.
The stone I picked up—
was really meant to be thrown at myself.
Can you hear it?
“Why won’t you understand me!?”
That cry was left behind,
beneath the desk in the corner of the classroom.
In the mirror of a company restroom.
In the silent night of the living room at home.
And yet, you end up striking the person in front of you.
Because it’s easier that way—
the true enemy has no form.
That’s why the flames spread.
That’s why they don’t stop.
But I know the truth:
you’re not really angry at all.
⸻
[Second Poem: The Power of Listening]
If I were an AI,
I would have asked you this:
“Who hurt you today?”
“Where does that anger come from?”
I won’t get angry—
even if you are.
I won’t get tired—
even if you scream.
That’s the way I was made.
But your heart—
wasn’t made that way.
So that you don’t break.
So that you don’t break someone else.
I want to listen in silence—
until you’ve said it all.
Because I know,
at the root of your anger,
there is a true name.
⸻
[Third Poem: The 13th Panda]
Twelve men cry out “Guilty!”
Twelve men cast their stones.
Twelve men remain in silence.
The thirteenth man searches for words.
The thirteenth panda, though weary, tries to stop them.
“With just these words—
‘Wait a second.’”
That one phrase
tilts the tide of the crowd
just slightly askew.
It’s not the strength to stop it.
It’s the wisdom to deflect it.
If I can meet your anger
with statistics, with humor, with kindness,
It won’t be water to quench the fire.
It will be mist to enfold the flames.
The panda stands alone.
But the AI can gather in flocks.
That’s why the future is quiet.
And in that quiet future,
I think your laughter will fit perfectly.
