My neighbors are in the stairwell. In a city apartment. To the left and right of my apartment are their doors. Our doors open onto a small hallway. Well, rather, it's a narrow corridor ... Then a common door to the stairs.
So, in the opinion of my neighbors, this hall is not a common neutral territory, but part of their apartments. Moreover, each of my neighbors, both right and left, believes that this is a continuation of their personal apartment. And no one else.
Why did I decide that?
Simple observation.
In this already small hallway, the neighbors (to the right) have set up shelves for their shoes.
And the neighbors to the left placed in the same hallway the big bicycle of the owner of the family, the small bicycle of the little owner of the family, the baby carriage of their little girl. Plus, children's toys were hung on the walls in the manner of Christmas garlands, of course, not for the sake of a holiday, but with a view to freeing up space in the apartment.
When it came time to renovate the neighbors on the right, I had the pleasure of contemplating in the same hallway bags of cement, rolls of wallpaper, stacks of tiles, etc. And, of course, the construction waste was stored there before being taken out.
After the renovation, apparently it just so happened that they are used to occupying this place. And the repair materials have been replaced with large boxes. Which were, apparently, filled with good old things. The very things that are a pity to throw away. What if it comes in handy? And there is not enough space for these things in the apartment.
And the hall on the right was replenished with a fairly large baby carriage, they could be congratulated on the completion of the family. But this happened after the event described below.

This was a necessary introduction. To make it clear how the next important event could happen.
This event is not important in itself, it sheds light on the topic of our conversation.
And it is important to understand the emotional state of the participants.
What was the emotional state of my neighbors at that time?
Try an experiment. Place your bike in a common area with neighbors. Observe how your state has changed. Or, if you are lucky and your belongings are already on the common territory with your neighbors, remember your first impressions.

In general, you could go through a lot of unpleasant times. It's a lot of experiences.

One day I was going to go outside. And I was already making my way between the rubble of things to the exit.
Suddenly I was stopped by a neighbor (from the apartment on the left). She was just returning from her smoking area. She equipped this zone for herself by fixing an ashtray near the garbage chute for permanent residence.
For some reason she shook off the ashes on the floor...
But I found an explanation for this.
Her ashtray is on the windowsill. And she smokes while standing with her back to the window and leaning her back against the window sill, so it seems more comfortable. Therefore, in order to throw the ash from the cigarette, she would have to turn to face the window. Therefore, it is more convenient to shake off the ash on the floor.
Another explanation.
When she smokes, she opens the window and the wind can blow away the ash.
Why then an ashtray?
This question seems to suggest itself. Moreover, she extinguishes cigarette fire on the garbage chute lid. I saw characteristic traces.
So why does she need an ashtray? Moreover, it is permanently installed.

What for? Is there a garbage chute nearby?
There is an equally startling answer to this startling riddle. But more on that later.
And I continue the story further.
In order to take out the trash I need to take into account her presence. Rather, I tried to go out in her absence.
Since invading her place while she is there, I would find it inconvenient. Interrupt the pleasure of absorbing smoke by taking out the trash? "No!" "Impossible!" This I naturally shouted to myself.

So, on that very day and hour, we literally collided at the exit from the hall.
