Introduction
A man with a long sharp triangle of face paint below each of his eyes stops in the street as he senses something.
“If you’re going to try and kill me, you’ll forfeit your life, you know.”
Suddenly, standing behind him is a man wearing all black armour and a plain mask covering his face. He’s one of the infamous magus police. Only the greatest of the magus are permitted to join their ranks. Suddenly, more men who look exactly like him appear and surround the man wearing the face paint. They speak with disguised voices, to prevent their identities being revealed.
“‘Ball-Breaker’ Turnball, you’re under arrest for crimes violating the rules of the magus.”
A symbol that's almost akin to a coat of arms lights up on the back of Turnball’s hand.
“The family crest of my magical lineage gives me the ability to use my unique magical weapons. Aside from that, I’m also quite the skilled mage, so you’ll have a bit of a problem.”
Suddenly, a wrist shackle appears on each of Turnball’s wrists. The shackles each have a long chain dangling from them. The chains each connect to a heavy iron ball. Turnball jumps to the side and then quickly one of the police officers fires a magical blast which misses Turnball.
Turnball swings his chain at one officer, who uses a magic spell to slow time for a second and steps backwards and dodges the iron ball. Then, the officer throws his hand forwards and flames begin to appear and suddenly a barrage of flames head towards Turnball. Turnball quickly holds one of his hands forward.
“Six point block.”
Suddenly, a magical pentagram-style star with six points and writing around it appears as a hologram in front of Turnball and blocks the flames.
As he is blocking the attack, another officer has ran behind Turnball. Turnball sees the shadow of the officer on the ground as the officer is about to try to kill Turnball.
‘Heed caution, boy. The real world of magus fighting is different to what they taught you at any magus school you went to.’
The officer's arm begins to light up as he prepares to attack Turnball. Turnball rotates himself and dodges the first attack, which is a slice from a holographic magical knife that the officer holds. The officer then throws a bunch of magical knives at Turnball, who uses his ball and chains to block them. Turnball then begins to swing both of his arms in the air and creates a wind current around himself, pushing the nearby officers away. As Turnball rotates the current, it shoots a blade of air which manages to catch onto an officer and cut him deeply across the chest. The officer, however, remains standing and unphased with a wound that would kill most men or regular magus.
Suddenly, more people teleport nearby. The magus police officers look on in disgust as the newly-teleported men speak up.
“I see you’re all doing a great job, clearly. Leave this to us, rookies.”
One of the police officers speaks his mind.
“It’s ‘Damage Control’. What the hell are they doing here?”
Many years ago, a very popular head of the magus police was deposed and the current leader was brought in. However, many veterans in the magus police were attached to the old leader and left with him and together, they set up a mercenary-style organisation known as ‘Damage Control’.
“‘Ball-Breaker’ Turnball, 13,000 coin reward for your capture or death. You’re ours now.”
Suddenly, one of the mercenaries flickers quickly like a jet of light and appears behind Turnball's wind blast. Turnball tries to rotate but before he could, the mercenary gets through the wind barrier. Turnball tries to attack but his chain gets blocked by the hand of the mercenary. Before anyone knew what was happening, the mercenary made a cutting motion with his hand and Turnball's head falls to the ground.
This is one of the dangers of the magus world. Sometimes a mage won’t follow the rules but instead believe he is unstoppable and does as he pleases, not knowing that while he has much strength, it pales in comparison to the veteran mages.
