Final Chapter
It was getting late, but I didn't feel like going out.
My mother found me in the courtyard and whispered, "It has to be today. Come on, go!"
So I went out and asked where Emile was.
He came out and immediately said that someone had ruined the Sloe Emperor Moth.
And he said he didn't know if a bad guy or a cat was responsible.
I asked to see the butterfly.
We went upstairs.
He lit a candle.
I saw the ruined butterfly resting on the display board.
I could see signs that Emile had tried to repair it.
The broken wings had been carefully spread out and placed on wet blotting paper.
But there was no way to fix it.
The antennae were also missing.
So I told him I had done it, and tried to explain, recount the details.
Emile didn't get angry or yell at me, but just clicked his tongue softly, stared at me for a while, and then said, "I see, I see, so that's just the kind of guy you are."
I told him I wanted to give him all of my toys.
He continued to act coldly and look at me with contempt, so I offered to give him my entire butterfly collection.
But he said, "Hell no. Not my thing.I already know your collection. What's more, today I got to see once again how you normally treat them."
At that moment, I nearly jumped on his throat.
There was nothing I could do.
I had been decided a villain, and Emile stood in front of me, coldly and righteously, as if he represented the laws of the world, looking down on me.
He didn't even curse me out.
She just looked at me, scorning me.
It was then and there that I realized there was no making amends for what had been done.
I left.
I was glad that my mother didn't try to dig deep into the matter, just kissed me and left me alone.
I was told to go to bed.
It was already later than usual for me to be asleep.
But before going to bed, I quietly went to the dining room and retrieved a large, auburn cardboard box, placed it on my bed, and opened it in the darkness.
I then took out the butterflies one by one and crushed them to pieces between my fingers.
