IT was many and many ayear ago,
In a kingdom by the sea,
That a maiden she lived whom you may know
By the name of ANNABEL LEE;
And this maiden she lived with no other thought
Than to love and be loved by me.
I was a child and she wa a child .
In this kingdom by the sea:
But we loved with a love that was more than love －－
I and my ANNABEL LEE;
With a love that the winged seraphs of heaven
Coveted her and me.
And this was the reason that, long ago,
In this kingdom by the sea,
A wind blew out of a cloud,chilling
My beautiful ANNABEL LEE;
So that her high-born kinsman came
And bore her away from me,
To shut her up in a sepulchre
In this kingdom by the sea.
The angels, not half so happy in heaven,
Went envying her and me －
Yes！－ that was the reason (as all men know,
In this kingdom by the sea)
That the wind came out of the cloud by night,
Chlling and killing my ANNABEL LEE,
But our love it was stronger by far than the love
Of those who were older than we－
Of many far wiser than we －
And neither the angels in heaven above,
Nor the demons down under the sea,
Can ever dissever my soul from the soul
Of the beautiful ANNABEL LEE.
For the moon never beams, without bringing me dreams
Of the beautiful ANNABEL LEE;
And the stars never rise , but I feel the bright eyes
Of the beautiful ANNABEL LEE;
And so, all the night-tide, I lie down by the see
Of my darling － my darling － my life and my bride
In the sepulchre there by the sea,
In her tomb by the sounding sea.

遠い遠い昔のことだった。
海の近くに王国がありそこに
一人の乙女が住んでいた、
その名はアナベルリー。
そしてこの乙女の心はただ私を愛すること、
愛されることそれだけだった。
彼女は子供で私も子供だった、
海の近くのこの王国で、
私たちは愛し合った、愛よりも深い愛で。
私と私のアナベルリー。
天国の翼の生えた天使から
ねたまれるほどの愛で。
そして、これがその理由だった。
遠い昔、海の近くの王国で、
雲間から夜の間に風が吹き降ろし
私のアナベルリーを凍らせたのは。
それゆえ、身分高い一族がはせ参じ、
彼女を私から連れ去ったのだ。
彼女を墓の中に閉じ込めるために。
海の近くの王国で。
天使らは天国で私達の半分も幸せではなかった。
彼女と私をうらやむばかり。
そうだ、それがそのわけだった。
誰も知る海の近くのこの王国で。
雲間から吹き降ろす風が凍らせて
私のアナベルリーを殺したのは。
しかし、私達の愛はもっと強かった。
年かさの人たちの愛よりも。
そしてもっと賢い人たちの愛よりもなお、
高き天国の天使達の誰ひとり。
また海の底深く棲む悪魔の誰ひとりとして
私の魂を美しいアナベルリーから
引き離すことなど出来ない。
月の光はきっと、私にもたらしてくれる
美しいアナベルリーの夢を
そして星が昇るとき、私は見るだろう
美しいアナベルリーの瞳を。
かくして私は夜毎思い続ける
私の愛する、愛する私の生命、私の花嫁を、
海の近くの彼女の墓に
ざわめき立つ海のほとりの
彼女の墓に。
