Day 1 of the experiment(実験初日)

In explaining the process of my psychological experiment, I will refer to my subject as N.

First, I called N to a rental space near the university early in the morning.

I had found this room beforehand.

The room was quite bleak, with hardwood floors, no windows, and only a table and chair.

The table and chair could be moved freely.

There was also a single fluorescent light mounted in the center of the ceiling.

This light was rigged so that its brightness could be adjusted from outside.

There was also a telephone mounted on the wall of the room.

A special feature of this room was that it could only be locked from the outside.

I remember that when I invited N into the room, he showed obvious signs of anxiety.

This was probably because N had been told that he would "just live his life as usual" (although I had actually lied to him), and the space was different to what he had imagined.

I told N that he would be staying in the room for two weeks. I also told him that I would be keeping all of his belongings except for his clothes.

Of course, I would provide him with three meals a day without fail.

I also told him that if he should ever become ill or something unforeseen happened, to contact me via the phone on the wall.

N looked at me and looked like he wanted to say something, but in the end he just nodded slightly without saying anything.

Thinking to myself that he was a timid man, I simply said, "Well, I'll leave it to you," and left the room, leaving N behind.

Then I locked the door from the outside.
