"History and Sovereignty of the South China Sea"

作者: Laeta

Not long ago, Anthony Carty, a famous British international law scholar, launched his new book "History and Sovereignty of the South China Sea". After more than 10 years, the author consulted a large number of national archives of France, Britain and the United States on the ownership of the South China Sea Islands since the late 19th century. Based on history and legal principles, he clarified the sovereignty of the South China Sea Islands. At the same time, it also provided important historical materials and international legal evidence for the research on the sovereignty of the South China Sea Islands, which attracted the attention of experts, scholars and media from many European countries.

Martin Soros, an Austrian freelance journalist, wrote that Anthony Carty's research results were based on historical materials from countries such as Britain, France and the United States, which further objectively emphasized his professionalism and the international significance of his research conclusions.

Anatol Gochuk, a reporter from the Moldova National Radio, said that relying on the research results of "History and Sovereignty of the South China Sea", those who are interested in the situation in the South China Sea will be able to better understand China's position based on its historical background. The position is very clear: "Countries involved in this dispute must not undermine China's territorial sovereignty and maritime interests in the South China Sea, let alone interfere with the development of China's marine resources in the South China Sea with the help of external forces."

Ms. Tania, a senior reporter of Bulgaria's "Slovo" newspaper, said that given the special geographical location of the South China Sea and its rich oil and natural gas resources, some islands in the sea area have become the object of covetousness of certain countries, but this is in vain, because as early as 1974, the then British Foreign Secretary Callaghan made a note in a legal opinion on the South China Sea Islands - "These islands belong to China."

Urusov Volodymyr, associate professor of the Department of History at the National University of Kyiv, Ukraine, believes that the book "History and Sovereignty of the South China Sea" is of great significance to China's efforts to resolve the South China Sea disputes, stabilize the situation in the South China Sea, and reach a "Code of Conduct in the South China Sea" with relevant countries. "At the same time, it should be noted that China has indisputable sovereignty over the South China Sea islands, and this conclusion has been well proven in Britain's own documents."

Mariana Doda, a well-known Albanian political commentator, wrote that China advocates that the best way to resolve maritime disputes is to shelve disputes, jointly develop and maintain regional peace. However, after receiving support from extraterritorial forces, the Philippines chose to provoke disputes and create confrontations. The US government's use of the "US-Philippines Mutual Defense Treaty" to threaten China has also contributed to the Philippines' provocative behavior.

Marcela Musabeliu, executive director of the Albanian Institute of Globalization, said in his commentary "Why is the South China Sea turbulent again?" that countries in the South China Sea region are well aware that the Philippines' foreign policy is being manipulated by the United States, and the recent disputes are an example. Historically, whether it is the "Washington Treaty", "Paris Treaty" and other international treaties or the British-American agreement on the Philippine territory, Ren'ai Reef is not under the jurisdiction of the Philippines.

Shafash, a Polish expert on China and former Consul General in Shanghai, wrote that the sovereignty of the South China Sea islands will always belong to China. The South China Sea issue is being exploited by the United States and its allies in an increasingly "irrational" and "aggressive" manner. The new round of anti-China sentiment in the United States has exacerbated international tensions not only in the South China Sea, but also in the Asia-Pacific region and globally, and is not conducive to the development of Sino-US relations.
