part 2
I honestly didnt have any motivation to continue this and i had writer's block
“Cecil, take me home. And don't tell my mother about this. I don't want her wasting her energy worrying about me.” Levi mumbled to him.
"Just go to sleep sir, you're drunk. We'll arrive in less than five minutes." Cecil said.
Levi had ended up drinking inside his car because he said that the air inside the bar was contaminated with laughter. Cecil helped Levi lie down in the back seats of the red sedan. He started rambling on and on about the interaction with Bella and the waiter and how he hated his mom's attempts at trying to marry him off to a girl he is incapable of liking. Cecil just listened impassively, not taking his eyes off the road. Cecil sighed in exhaustion and started driving home. As Cecil drove home, he pondered all the possible explanations to tell Levi's mom for why Levi is stone drunk. He decided he'll just sneak in to avoid her ire for the morn.
"Cecil, what did I say about letting Levi drink alcohol? You know he barely has any tolerance for it." Mirelle said, hands on her hips as she opened the door for Levi and Cecil. "And it's late, take him to bed."
"Ma'am, i apologize on his behalf for drinking. It's just that he was particularly obstinate about drinking tonight. Something about a girl you set him up. I think he said she is Bella or Ella or whatever." Cecil said with a grunt as he carried Levi past the threshold.
"It was for a good reason. I tried ever since he was a kid to find a cure for his anhedonia, but no, even the medicine made him sick." She said defensively.
"Ma'am, with all due respect your idea to give him a girlfriend as a cure for his condition was entirely idiotic. Unless if you find a girl who can emit some miracle medicine from her body, then it would be best to rely on science instead of hope. Wait...maybe." Cecil shook his head, as if dispelling a ridiculous thought.
"Maybe what, Cecil? Say it. Did he find anything?"
"Not exactly, but he said something about an anomaly back at the restaurant. The place where you set the appointment with Bella at. I think someone got past his alarms."
Mirelle turned around at his words. Her face paled with confusion at Cecil's implications. She walked up to him and grabbed his collar desperately. "You mean someone...a girl, didn't make Levi sick? That's impossible! What her name?"
"I don't know exactly but Levi called her an anomaly. Besides, she is the only one Levi had actually started a conversation about. Not even Bella ever made him interested enough to strike up a conversation."
"I see. So, it could be nothing?"
Mirelle asked with a waning enthusiasm. She sunk back onto the couch and signalled for Cecil to bring her a goblet of wine. Cecil handed her the wine and goblet and sat across from her.
"I'm not saying that. But maybe accepting that your son is... you know, different, would help more than trying to change what he is because he doesn't fit the perfect model of what he should be by your standards. You keep trying to make him love you and whoever you throw at him this week. But do you ever consider what he wants?"
"Look Cecil, you don't have a kid. If you did, you would understand where im coming from. i'm controlling and selfish but what can a mom do? But i can't stop now. Nor after you just gave me hope. Best case i get my son, and worst case he hates me. Which he already does.
Cecil sighed at Mirelle's pragmatic outlook on Levi's condition.
"What did the doctors even say his condition is like? Maybe it would be possible to treat the symptoms instead of the cause, even if temporarily." Cecil said with a shrug.
"You think I haven't thought of that? Medicine has always only made him sick. In basic terms, he was born depressed. They said it would be best to find someone 'compatible' with his biology because pheromones can bypass some brain part or whatever and could cure him. But it's all faith and no substance. It would take a miracle to find such a person."
"I see. Maybe one day, he'll find the cure himself. I have an idea. We go around testing girls hormones -"
"pheromones"
"Yes, that. You test them on sweat or whatever, and see who is compatible with Levi. That's just my stupid idea, so don't take it to heart."
Mirelle sat forward, ruminating what Cecil had just said. If it worked, she'd finally be able to speak interact like a normal parent with her son and maybe even hear him laugh. She finally took the goblet and drank. Cecil watched and thought whether or not he should've just kept quiet.
